Aeration
Soils can become compacted for a variety of reasons, construction activities, heavy foot or vehicle
traffic, irrigated turf, etc.. Tree roots require oxygen to thrive, and where soils become compacted
trees tend to perform poorly or become more susceptible to disease and insect damage. We have a
variety of tools to loosen an provide aeration to the soil without damaging tree roots. One such
tool is our Airspade. See photo of Airspade being used for root exploration. |
Airspade
We can dig an exploratory trench using a device called an Airspade. It uses an air compressor to blow out the dirt without damaging roots, pipes or underground utilities. It is especially useful when planning a building project within the drip line of a protected tree as it allows us to see what roots are there and if they can be safely pruned out to make way for construction. It is necessary that the area to be dug is adequately soaked prior to trenching.
Appraisals
Based on current industry guides for plant appraisals, we can provide the monetary value of a tree
or trees to their site for a variety of reasons, insurance claims, construction bonding, mitigation,
etc.

Annual Pruning Program

We provide a free service where WE call you when it is time to prune your trees. This program has been especially helpful for those clients with trees that should be pruned during the winter months (November-February) such as pines, birches and fruit trees. There is no obligation to prune your trees when we call, just a simple reminder during that typically busy time of the year. Feel free to call our office to learn more.
We can provide tree preservation reports as required by cities and the counties for building permits. If you have your building and/or grading plan from your architect and/or engineer we can visit the site and give you a free estimate for the cost of the report. We also provide on site supervision by a certified arborist as is sometimes required by the permitting agency.
Cabling and Bracing
Cabling and bracing can be used to help retain highly regarded trees that have structural deficiencies.
Fertilizing
We have a high pressure soil injection fertilizer rig that we can, combined with a soil analysis,
apply the appropriate nutrients to help your trees perform well.
Free Wood Chips
We deliver free wood chips. We have a chip list that we give to our crew and when they happen to be working in your area and have a full truck load of chips (our trucks hold 10-12 yards that will cover about 1000 sq. ft 2-3” deep) we are happy to stop by and drop them off for you.
Here is a picture of a two full truck loads of chips side by side in a parking lot.

Here is an example of our chips spread around existing plants.
Fully Insured and Licensed
We carry workman's compensation on all our employees and are insured for both personal
liability and property damage and can provide you with a certificate of insurance upon request.
Hazard Evaluations
Based on targets, and the structural condition of your trees, we can determine whether or not they
pose a risk to you or your property. |
| |
Health Evaluations
We have the knowledge and resources to help identify health issues concerning your trees. Many
times trees perform poorly because of poor cultural care such as too little or too much water, poor
drainage, poor pruning practices, compacted soils, insect and disease damage etc. We can provide
visual assessment from the ground or aloft as necessary, and provide foliage and soil analysis
through lab assessment. Should a tree require a fungicide or insecticide treatment through foliar
spraying, we can recommend reliable companies that provide that service if it is determined that
will help your trees.
Planting
We provide limited planting services. We can install 15 gallon or 24” box trees. Our service includes the selection of a quality specimen at the nursery, delivery, installation and staking, if needed. Our trees are guaranteed for one year as long as they receive proper care during that year.
Real Estate Tree Inspections
We often provide an evaluation of the trees on properties for prospective buyers. We can identify
the species of the trees, their approximate age, health, condition, safety, and provide a plan for
their care and approximates costs to maintain the trees over the years.

When there is a concern that a tree's non visible interior structure may be compromised, we use a variety of tools and knowledge to measure the soundness of the internal wood tissue. One such tool is the Resistograph that uses a micro drill bit to measure, and simultaneously graph out the density of the wood tissue as it penetrates the tree. |
We can perform root crown excavations where we pull away excess soil from around the trunk of the tree to expose the root flair. Trees do not tolerate grade changes.
Excess soil against the trunk and over the roots can promote root funguses. |
Stump Grinding

We have four different size stump grinders. This is a picture of our largest stump grinder used primarily for front yard stumps. We have smaller stump grinders that can fit through a typical back yard gate to reach stumps in the back yard. We also have a hand held stump grinder that can get to stumps located in tight areas. Our estimator can determine which machine is appropriate for your job.

When finished grinding out the stump we back fill with the grindings, as demonstrated here. The resulting mulch can be used as a top dressing around existing plants to keep down weeds and retain moisture. Or for an additional charge we can haul away the excess grindings down to a level grade. |

By using proper equipment, climbers can safely enter the tree without damaging it.
Climbers can tie in safely and work throughout tree to make proper cuts to remove deadwood and reduce heavy end weight. A climber should NEVER spur up a living tree to be trimmed as spurs damage the tree. Spurs are only to be used in removals.

Mistletoe is a parasite that infects a variety of trees, but is especially prevalent in ash trees. The best way to eradicate it is to remove the entire branch it grows on, where possible, without destroying the natural shape of the tree. Here is an example of before and after mistletoe removal.

| We have the skills, rigging technology, as well as access to any equipment needed to remove trees
of any size. Here we are using a 190 ton crane to remove this hazardous oak that had been compromised at the base by decay. |
